Columbia has gone 8-2 against Vallivue recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Columbia blew Emmett out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Emmett got their revenge. The Wildcats fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 12-10. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Parker Harrison was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Harrison was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Brody Springer was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Finley Stern was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Vallivue came tearing into Thursday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Cougars as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.
Like Columbia, Vallivue also got a great game from a two-way player: Eli Daniel. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Daniel has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
Daniel wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Colt Augustus, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI. Those five runs gave Augustus a new career-high. Another was Gage Warrington, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base.
Vallivue was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Caldwell only posted a batting average of .280.
Vallivue's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.
Columbia couldn't quite finish off Vallivue in their previous meeting back in March and fell 8-6. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
