Vermilion fell victim to Bellevue's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were the victim of a tough 20-0 defeat at the hands of the Redmen. While losing is never fun, Vermilion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 466th, while Bellevue is ranked 223rd).
Meanwhile, Perkins stacked a eighth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 55-28 win over Columbian.
Perkins' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Bunts, who rushed for 248 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Bunts is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Logan Lesch, who threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns.
Vermilion's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.5 points per game. As for Perkins, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
Vermilion was dealt a bruising 51-20 loss at the hands of Perkins when the teams last played back in August of 2020. Can Vermilion avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
