The Arete Prep CHARGERS lost against the Leading Edge Academy - GEC Spartans back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Arete Prep took a 48-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Leading Edge Academy - GEC. While losing is never fun, Arete Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Leading Edge Academy - GEC is ranked 104th).
Arete Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia De La Rosa, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and two steals. De La Rosa is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Livia Emery, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Arete Prep and nudges their season record down to 6-12. As for Leading Edge Academy - GEC, their victory bumped their record up to 13-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Arete Prep will face off against Gilbert Classical Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Leading Edge Academy - GEC, they will head out on the road to take on Miami at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Miami will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
