The Hubbard Eagles will head out to challenge the Howland Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hubbard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Hubbard turned things around against Poland Seminary on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 5-0.
Haleigh Taylor made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Taylor was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Songer, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
Howland came out on top against LaBrae on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Vikings. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Hubbard, Howland also got a great game from a two-way player: Makenna Perry. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Perry has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Madison Schmitz was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games she's played.
Hubbard's record now sits at 11-5. As for Howland, their record is now 10-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hubbard hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. However, it's not like Howland struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hubbard came out on top in a nail-biter against Howland when the teams last played back in April of 2019, sneaking past 10-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
