The Tompkins Falcons will challenge the Katy Taylor Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tompkins has given up an average of 29.1 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tompkins is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Katy on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Falcons came up short against the Tigers, falling 42-22. The Falcons have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their defeat, Tompkins saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Dylan Wheeler, who picked up 105 receiving yards and a pair of scores, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Hamilton, who picked up 84 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Katy Taylor lost to Paetow at home by a 44-30 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 738th, while the Panthers are ranked 351st).
Like Tompkins, Katy Taylor lost despite seeing results from several players. Joshua Jacobson led the charge by picking up 134 receiving yards and one touchdown. Jacobson was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 62 yards. Garrett Barham was another key player, having thrown for 280 yards and onetouchdown.
Tompkins now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Katy Taylor, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Tompkins has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170.4 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Katy Taylor, though, as they've been averaging only 92.6 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
