The Patriot Pioneers's 17-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a 47-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Woodson on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Patriot can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Woodson is ranked fifth).
Patriot's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ella Negron, who scored 13 points along with 9 rebounds. The contest was Negron's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Sweeney, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Patriot and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Woodson, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Patriot will take on Hylton at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Hylton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. Woodson will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Robinson at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Robinson is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
