The Coffee Trojans lost against the Statesboro Blue Devils back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Coffee fell 46-38 to Statesboro. While losing is never fun, Coffee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th, while Statesboro is ranked 55th).
When it comes to explaining why Coffee lost, one person who can't be blamed is Junitho Benson. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Larenzo Harvey, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Dartavian (dj) Brown was the offensive standout of the match as he scored 23 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Kamron (kam) Mikell was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.
Coffee now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Statesboro, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coffee won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Clinch County at 7:30 p.m. on January 6th. Clinch County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 389 points over their last six matches. Statesboro won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Swainsboro at 6:30 p.m. on January 6th.
