The Wheeler Bearcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their eighth straight loss. They took a 61-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Calumet New Tech. Wheeler has struggled against Calumet New Tech recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Wheeler had strong showings from Marek Barton, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Brady Rife, who scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Blane, who scored four points along with five assists.
Leading Calumet New Tech to victory were Eric Allen and John Hudson. Allen scored 13 points along with eight assists and three steals, while Hudson scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Hudson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Amir Watson, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Wheeler's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-10. As for Calumet New Tech, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheeler will take on Whiting at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Whiting focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday. As for Calumet New Tech, they will be playing at home against Gary West Side at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gary West Side has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 377 points over their last six games.
