The Vestaburg Wolverines will venture away from home to challenge the Carson City-Crystal Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Vestaburg has ten straight wins, Carson City-Crystal has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Vestaburg's victory against Webberville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolverines narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Spartans 3-1.

04/19/25 vs Webberville | 18 |
05/15/24 @ Morrice | 14 |
04/05/24 vs Brethren | 14 |
04/09/24 @ Farwell | 13 |
05/11/24 vs Mason County Central | 12 |
Addison Neelis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those 18 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sasha Page, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Carson City-Crystal's offense. They came up short against Breckenridge on Thursday, falling 6-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.
Haven Reeder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on 11 hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Carson City-Crystal saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haedee Clark, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Vestaburg pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average this season. As for Carson City-Crystal, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Vestaburg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Carson City-Crystal struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Vestaburg couldn't quite finish off Carson City-Crystal when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
