Softball Recap: Munster Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

It's playoff time, and Munster had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hammond Central Wolves a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.

Kaylee O'Connell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daphne Smith, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

Munster always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hammond Central only posted an OBP of .000.

The win was the fourth in a row for Munster, bringing their record up to 20-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hammond Central, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10-1.

Munster didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 defeat against Lake Central on the 28th. Hammond Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
