Hampton and Phoebus are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Crabbers will take on the Phantoms at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hampton has given up an average of 15.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Hampton's offense. They lost 14-0 to Kecoughtan on Thursday. The Crabbers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Phoebus made sure to put some runs up on the board against Booker T. Washington on Monday. The Phantoms put the hurt on the Mighty Bookers with a sharp 22-5 win. The Phantoms might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.
Suniya White was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, Phoebus got a massive performance out of Gianna Illiano, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. Another player making a difference was Jada Jones, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Phoebus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .705. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Phoebus pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Hampton, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.
Hampton got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2025 against Phoebus by a conclusive 16-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crabbers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
