The Centerville Bulldogs will face off against the Delta Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Centerville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Centerville didn't have quite enough to beat Franklin County and fell 6-5. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Madi Yount put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Yount wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Seifer, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Mykilah Pamplin also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Delta came up short against Northeastern on Tuesday and fell 12-8.
Addie Smith and Ava West did some serious damage despite the final result: Smith scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while West scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Hughes, who went 2-for-4 with one triple.
Having lost for the first time this season, Centerville fell to 3-1. As for Delta, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Centerville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .418. However, it's not like Delta struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Centerville took their win against Delta in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
