Woodgrove is a perfect 6-0 against John Champe since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wolverines will welcome the Knights at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Woodgrove 2.6, John Champe 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Woodgrove let Heritage stack four runs on them in the sixth inning on Thursday but luckily Woodgrove prevailed anyway. The Wolverines skirted past the Pride 7-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverines.
Bryan Miller made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Miller was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other pitching news, Brodie Carley tossed a big game, tossing 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.
Back at the plate, Coltan Dezarn was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Patrick Lyons, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, John Champe came tearing into Thursday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Captains with a sharp 10-2 victory. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
Trevor Casad spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kellan Reavill, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
John Champe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 15.
John Champe pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Woodgrove, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Woodgrove was able to grind out a solid victory over John Champe in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
