Softball Recap: River Ridge/Scales Mound Gets the Win

River Ridge/Scales Mound hadn't done well against Southwestern recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. River Ridge/Scales Mound won by a run and slipped past Southwestern 4-3. For River Ridge/Scales Mound, this counts as revenge for the 16-11 victory Southwestern walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Laiken Haas and Elizabeth Rife were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Haas struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Rife didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Haas a new career-low in walks (zero). At bat, Haas scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Rife went 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Haas also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Anna Weis, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season.

The win made it two in a row for River Ridge/Scales Mound and bumps their season record up to 2-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as River Ridge/Scales Mound Wildcats duke it out with Lena-Winslow Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southwestern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Dubuque at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
