The Momence Momence Athletics waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They came out on top against Grant Park by a score of 37-28. That's another feather in the cap for Momence, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Momence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sydnee Vanswol, who scored 14 points along with two blocks. It was the first time this season that Vanswol posted two or more blocks. A'Miracle Johnson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Grant Park had strong showings from Alejandra Maldonado, who scored 17 points along with six steals, and Claire Sluis, who scored seven points along with two steals. Maldonado has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played.
Grant Park struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Momence pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Momence's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. As for Grant Park, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-20.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Momence will face off against Beecher at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Grant Park, they will head out on the road to face off against Clifton Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Grant Park focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
