Football Recap: Grossmont Skates Past Hoover with Ease

Grossmont had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Hoover Cardinals 33-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Foothillers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Cardinals are ranked 218th).

Grossmont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marissa Farace led the charge by throwing for 152 yards and a pair of TDs, while also rushing for 36 yards. Those 36 rushing yards gave Farace a new career-high. Another big playmaker for Grossmont was Gabi Thomas, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

Grossmont didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Skyler Glover, Ari Simpson, and Sahara Roope picked up one apiece.

Grossmont's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Hoover, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-6-1.

Grossmont wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 13-0 loss against Carlsbad on the 30th. As for Hoover, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Point Loma at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pointers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
