Basketball Recap: Blake Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

On Saturday, the Blake Yellow Jackets earned a 61-50 win over the North Broward Prep Eagles. Given the Yellow Jackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Eagles are ranked 92nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jason Johnson was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 9 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Joe Philon, who posted seven points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

Blake was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Broward Prep only racked up 12 assists.

North Broward Prep lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Samuel Cano, who had 11 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Baxley, who put up nine points and five assists.

Blake's record now sits at 10-1. As for North Broward Prep, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

Blake wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 53-46 victory against Gateway Charter on the 2nd. As for North Broward Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-43 loss against Western on the 4th.
