The Berrien Springs Shamrocks will face off against the Brandywine Bobcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Berrien Springs has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Brandywine will arrive with five straight victories.
On Tuesday, Berrien Springs came up short against Buchanan and fell 9-5.
Ethan McCrary and Brody Brewer did some serious damage despite the final result: McCrary went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run, while Brewer went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Another player making a difference was Micah Mcfarland, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brandywine). They put the hurt on South Haven with a sharp 16-3 win on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bobcats with their most commanding win of the season.
Brandywine let Mason Simmons and Kaeden Warfield run wild. Simmons went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Warfield got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Warfield is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last 11 games he's played. Emerson Gogley was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Brandywine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Brandywine's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Berrien Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
Berrien Springs couldn't quite get it done against Brandywine when the teams last played back in April as they fell 4-0. Can the Shamrocks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
