Softball Recap: Frederick Douglass Now 9-1 over Last Ten Games

Frederick Douglass never let their opponents score on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Conner Cougars. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Savannah Wombles made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jarynn Bowman, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Emma Dunn was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Frederick Douglass kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Frederick Douglass has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Conner, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Frederick Douglass will face off against Great Crossing at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Conner, they will square off against Boone County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rebels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
