3A District 2 recap October 29, 2013
Cushing was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Perkins-Tryon. The Tigers came in at 20 in the state poll after placing at number 30 last week.
Cushing added to the longest winning streak in 3A District 2 this week by beating the Demons, 34-0. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Chandler's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mason Myers threw for 193 and 2 touchdowns and Hunter Hudson had 80 yards receiving. On the ground Rodney Lewis contributed 133 yards. Lewis helped Chandler's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 50 yards.
Kyle Duke was a passing and rushing force as Bethany beat Prague. He completed 8 passes for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 114 yards. Duke's favorite target this week was Nicholas Long, who caught 2 passes for 57 yards.
Myers put up the best numbers through the air as the Lions topped Kellyville. Myers' favorite target this week was Hudson, who caught 2 passes for 80 yards.
Chandler's Myers and Lewis led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Myers has thrown for 1,079 yards this season, while Lewis has 30 catches for 573 yards. Duke from the Bronchos leads the league in rushing with 862 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Cushing and Seminole. The Tigers comes into the matchup ranked 20th in the state, while the Chieftains ranks 12th.
One of 3A District 2's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Zack Smith's team and Perkins-Tryon face off next week.
There should be lots of points scored when the Lions and Lloyd Wertman's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Chandler comes in having scored 246 this season, while the Demons have scored 256. The Lions scored 69 points last week as they defeated the Ponies.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Cushing takes on Seminole. The Tigers have allowed 90 points this season, while Mike Snyder's team has given up 103.
The Chieftains took down Bristow 54-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
