The Salpointe Catholic Lancers will head out to challenge the Sunnyside Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Salpointe Catholic 2.3, Sunnyside 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Salpointe Catholic picked up another tournament win on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 9-1 margin over Marana. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.
Lucas Shannon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other pitching news, Christopher Gutierrez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Colton Raetzman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Raetzman is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Dane White also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Salpointe Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marana only managed three hits.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside entered their tilt with Yuma on Friday with four consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with five. They came out on top against the Criminals by a score of 5-2.
ALFREDO ENCINAS was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of MICHEL MUNIZ, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Salpointe Catholic's record is now 6-0-1. As for Sunnyside, their record is now 9-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Salpointe Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sunnyside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Salpointe Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Sunnyside when the teams last played back in March of 2019, sneaking past 3-2. Does Salpointe Catholic have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sunnyside turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
