AAA District 1 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Volunteer moved up to 158 from 187 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAA District 1. The Falcons were able to make the jump by beating David Crockett 33-8.
Science Hill extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sullivan South, 69-27. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
The Pioneers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ryan Burger threw for 38 yards and Ty Butler had 33 yards receiving. On the ground Austin Durbin chipped in 52 yards. Durbin helped David Crockett's passing attack out by catching one ball for 10 yards.
Coy Vaughn made the biggest impact on defense this week as David Crockett fell to Volunteer. The junior recorded one fumble.
David Crockett's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Pioneers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Burger has thrown for 329 yards and one touchdown this season, while Devin Walker has eight catches for 207 yards. Jordan Turner leads the league in rushing with 331 yards.
A big matchup in AAA District 1 this week will be when Science Hill takes on Daniel Boone. Stacy Carter's team is currently in first, while the Trailblazers are in third.
