The Fernandina Beach Pirates lost against the Hilliard Red Flashes back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Fernandina Beach was beaten by Hilliard 56-29. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Fernandina Beach in their matchups with Hilliard: they've now lost five in a row.
Fernandina Beach's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Savina Wells, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Wells has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Julianna Miller, who scored five points along with four steals.
Fernandina Beach now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Hilliard, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season.
Fernandina Beach will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Trinity Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on January 6, 2024. Hilliard will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hawthorne at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
