Granada Hills Charter is 9-1 against Birmingham since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Highlanders will square off against the Patriots at 3:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Birmingham will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Granada Hills Charter extended their winning streak to eight on Friday. The Highlanders were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over Taft.
The team relied heavily on Elysse Diaz, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Lainey Brown also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Granada Hills Charter hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Birmingham). Everything went their way against Cleveland on Wednesday as they made off with a 21-4 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Patriots sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Annabella Venegas spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Jazmine Olmos was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tori Torrez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.
Granada Hills Charter pushed their record up to 23-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Birmingham, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Birmingham's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Granada Hills Charter has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Birmingham, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 strikeouts. Will Granada Hills Charter keep running through batters, or will the Patriots buck the trend?
Everything went Granada Hills Charter's way against Birmingham in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Granada Hills Charter made off with a 13-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Highlanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
