The Eastland Mavericks will venture away from home to take on the Jacksboro Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Eastland came out on top against Millsap on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run seventh inning. The Mavericks blew past the Bulldogs 15-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mavericks.
Ana Cunningham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jayci Majors, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two triples, and three runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Adyson Carroll, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Eastland lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Jacksboro waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Bearcats. Jacksboro's victory was all the more impressive since the Bearcats were averaging only 4.08 runs allowed on the season.
Maddy Morgan was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Starr Wesson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Eastland's record now sits at 17-9. As for Jacksboro, their record is now 19-11-1.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eastland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like Jacksboro struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
