Bluestem is 1-9 against the Red Devils since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Bluestem Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Erie Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. Bluestem is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, Bluestem had to suffer through a rough 72-38 loss at the hands of the Bullpups. Bluestem has not had much luck with the Bullpups recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
In what's become a running theme this season, Erie gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They blew past Cherryvale 73-53. Given Erie's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Chargers are ranked 354th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ethan Dillinger was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 15 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Richenburg, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds.
Bluestem's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Erie, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Bluestem ended up a good deal behind the Red Devils in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, losing 56-37. Can Bluestem avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
