The Union Pines Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Douglas Byrd Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Union Pines has three straight wins, Douglas Byrd has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Union Pines has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 28 points or more this season. They blew past Gray's Creek 81-53 on the road.
It was another big night for Trent Hilburn, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. The contest was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Kyle, who scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Douglas Byrd had to suffer through a rough 67-30 loss at the hands of Scotland. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Douglas Byrd in their matchups with Scotland: they've now lost six in a row.
Union Pines' win bumped their season record to 4-1 while Gray's Creek's loss dropped theirs to 0-3.
Union Pines strolled past Douglas Byrd when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 59-40. Does Union Pines have another victory up their sleeve, or will Douglas Byrd turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
