The Jones Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Union Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Jones focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Monday.
Last Monday, Jones was beaten by Spring Creek 48-15. Jones was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-7.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Aariel Jemison, who scored 7 points along with 6 rebounds.
Even though Union has not done well against Midway recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Union was the clear victor by a 51-28 margin over Midway.
Ariyona Spearman had a dynamite game for Union, dropping a triple-double on 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 steals. The matchup was Spearman's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zadariyah Faison, who scored 22 points.
Spring Creek's win bumped their season record to 1-1 while Jones' loss dropped theirs to 1-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Jones have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 30.8% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Union, though, as they've only nailed 30% of theirs this season. Given Jones' sizeable advantage in that area, Union will need to find a way to close that gap. Jones lost to Union on the road by a decisive 46-32 margin in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Can Jones avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
