Two dominant guards in Beto Galarza and Isaiah Cuellar are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hanna Golden Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Rivera Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Hanna focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
After a string of four wins, Hanna's good fortune finally ran out. They fell just short of Los Fresnos by a score of 52-50. Hanna found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post eight fewer assists than your opponent.
Hanna might have lost, but man, Galarza was a machine: he scored 24 points along with six steals. Jesus Leal was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Rivera, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-37 loss to the Panthers on Tuesday.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Andy Sanchez, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elias Rodarte, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Hanna's record now sits at 22-11. As for Rivera, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-11 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Hanna have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 21.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rivera struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Hanna skirted past the Raiders 56-54 in their previous meeting back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Cuellar, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Hanna still be able to contain Cuellar? There's only one way to find out.
