Brearley is 1-9 against New Providence since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Brearley Bears on the road again and play against the New Providence Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Even though Brearley has not done well against Dayton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Brearley walked away with a 55-46 win over Dayton.
Meanwhile, New Providence entered their tilt with Madison with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. New Providence came out on top against Madison by a score of 59-52 on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given New Providence's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Madison is ranked 18th).
Brearley's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for New Providence, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
Brearley might still be hurting after the 67-43 loss they got from New Providence in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Brearley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
