Eastern Mennonite is 0-8 against Miller School of Albemarle since March of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Flames will be playing in front of their home fans against the Devils at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Mennonite is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Eastern Mennonite is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against The Covenant School on Monday. They lost 8-1 to the Eagles.
Eastern Mennonite saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Showalter, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Showalter has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Meanwhile, Miller School of Albemarle faced Collegiate in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Devils put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 12-2 win. Considering the Devils have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Drew Wade tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Miller School of Albemarle is undefeated when Wade allows three or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Mandela Browman was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Rosales, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Miller School of Albemarle is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern Mennonite, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Eastern Mennonite has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Miller School of Albemarle struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eastern Mennonite might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Miller School of Albemarle in their previous matchup back in April of 2025.
