The Platt Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 49-21 loss at the hands of Berlin. While losing is never fun, Platt can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while Berlin is ranked 30th).
Berlin found their leader in underclassman Brooke Walker, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Walker has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 11 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Litwinko, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Platt dropped their record down to 1-17 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.0 points per game. As for Berlin, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Platt will square off against Maloney at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Platt is facing Maloney at the right time seeing as Maloney is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Berlin, they will head out on the road to face off against Middletown at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Berlin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday.
