The Bogue Chitto Bobcats will face off against the Wesson Cobras at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Bogue Chitto is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Bogue Chitto will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Tylertown on Thursday. Everything went Bogue Chitto's way against Tylertown as Bogue Chitto made off with a 19-3 win. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 11 runs or more this season.
Kylie Pittman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Bogue Chitto let Joy Leggett and Abigail Holder run wild. Leggett went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Holder scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Cailyn McClendon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Bogue Chitto hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wesson, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Warren Central on Thursday.
Like Bogue Chitto, Wesson also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddie Sanders. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those hits were Sanders' first of the season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ady Rose Dowd, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Kenslie Carter was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Bogue Chitto's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-4. As for Wesson, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Bogue Chitto might still be hurting after the 16-4 defeat they got from Wesson in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Bogue Chitto avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
