It was a good run, but the Huntingtown Hurricanes unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Great Mills by a score of 46-43. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Huntingtown of the 60-44 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Huntingtown saw an underclassman step up: Eva Powell dropped a double-double on 18 points and 19 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Huntingtown were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Great Mills only racked up eight assists.
Great Mills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from A'naija Bush, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. Bush is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaliyah Brown, who scored ten points along with six steals.
Huntingtown's defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Great Mills, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-5.
Huntingtown will be playing at home against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. La Plata is no doubt hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses. As for Great Mills, they will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Patuxent will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Hornets are ranked 118th).
