Mineral Ridge (Ohio) kept up a steady attack all game long to beat
Springfield (New Middletown, Ohio), 34-12, on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Steven Phillips in the second quarter, the Rams led 13-6 at the half.
Mineral Ridge expanded its lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. MR scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Devine Redding.
Anthony Scandy made a difference for the Tigers. The junior caught one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
Phillips was the top performer for the Rams. He ran for one touchdown and caught one touchdown. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
Mineral Ridge had struggled this season, allowing 33.6 points per game. But MR tightened up and held Springfield below its season average of 16.1 points per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which SHS took, 49-19.
Springfield (3-6) goes up against Jackson-Milton in a Inter-Tri-County - Large game matchup next week, while Mineral Ridge (5-4) locks horns with United also in a Inter-Tri-County - Large game.
