Wesson has gone a perfect 4-0 against Amite County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cobras will square off against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wesson has eight straight wins, Amite County has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Wesson's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Salem as they made off with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Cobras have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Parker Brooks looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Wesson got a massive performance out of Dawson Selman, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was Selman's first of the season. Baylor Smith was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Amite County fell victim to Wesson and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Cobras, falling 14-0. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by exactly 14 runs.
Amite County's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Wesson, their record is now 9-1-1.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wesson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. However, it's not like Amite County struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wesson got the 'W' in their previous meeting on Tuesday against Amite County by a conclusive 14-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cobras since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
