The Northeast Raiders proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 53) but on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Academy for Classical Education 41-39. That's another feather in the cap for Northeast, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Northeast's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Destinee Waller, who scored eight points along with two steals. Jada Smith was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Academy for Classical Education lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Karlee Yates, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Rhett Farmer, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Northeast and bumps their season record up to 8-10. As for Academy for Classical Education, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
Northeast will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Southwest is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Academy for Classical Education, they will head out on the road to square off against the Red Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
