The Winneconne Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Berlin Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Winneconne will be strutting in after a win while Berlin will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Winneconne humbled Waupaca with a 42-13 victory. The win was just what Winneconne needed coming off of a 45-19 defeat in their prior contest.
Winneconne relied on the efforts of Brady Immel, who rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and Ethan Mathe, who rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Berlin's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. The match between Berlin and Port Washington wasn't particularly close, with Berlin falling 35-20. While losing is never fun, Berlin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin football rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Port Washington is ranked 20th).
Winneconne's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.2 points per game. As for Berlin, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.
Winneconne came up short against Berlin in their previous meeting back in August of 2021, falling 26-22. Thankfully for Winneconne, Cade Martin (who rushed for 182 yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
