Lloyd Memorial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Begnoche, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Begnoche has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times he's played.
Meanwhile, Owen County got the win against Trimble County on Thursday by a conclusive 8-1. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Brody Hearn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Michael Smith was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Owen County is undefeated when Smith posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Connor Dezarn, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Owen County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trimble County only posted a batting average of .087.
Owen County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Lloyd Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-15.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lloyd Memorial has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Owen County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
