Chambers has gone a perfect 3-0 against Independence recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Chambers Cougars will face off against the Independence Patriots. One thing working in Chambers' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 22 matchups.
Chambers is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 65-58 victory over McDowell. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Titans are ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chambers' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Malik McCotter, who went 6-for-13 en route to 17 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. Another player making a difference was Markus Kerr, who posted 16 points.
McCotter wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Chambers was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. Chambers is 20-4 when they've passed the ball that well.
Meanwhile, Independence had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.8 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They skirted past the Blue Devils 48-46. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since February 22, 2024.
Independence found their leader in sophomore Lusemo Macharia, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Those 14 boards set a new season-high mark for Macharia. Carter Lee was another key player, putting up nine points.
Independence's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.9 points over those games. As for Chambers, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Chambers has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've been averaging 21.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Chambers was able to grind out a solid win over Independence when the teams last played back in November of 2021, winning 69-59. Will Chambers repeat their success, or does Independence have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
