The Byron Nelson Bobcat waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They pulled ahead with a 43-42 photo finish over Timber Creek. Given Byron Nelson's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Timber Creek is ranked 429th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Timber Creek lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ryne Lane. Despite the final result, he scored nine points along with five rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Lane posted two or more blocks. Dj Bell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Byron Nelson pushed their record up to 16-10 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Timber Creek, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Byron Nelson on the road again on Friday and play against Keller at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Keller knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Byron Nelson likes a good challenge. As for Timber Creek, they will head out on the road to challenge Fossil Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fossil Ridge is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
