The Lanier Bulldogs will face off against the Wingfield Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lanier is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wingfield in Mississippi (Lanier is ranked 115th, while Wingfield is ranked 263rd).
Last Tuesday, Lanier was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 50-49 to McComb. Lanier has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 58 points the game before, Wingfield were a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They were beaten by Raymond 54-21. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Wingfield has scored all season.
Wingfield's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Martavius Bennett, who scored seven points, and Orenthal Claiborne who scored four points.
Lanier has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. As for Wingfield, their loss dropped their record down to 2-22.
Lanier didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Wingfield in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 47-41 victory. Will Lanier repeat their success, or does Wingfield have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
