Cheshire and Southington are an even 4-4 against one another since June of 2015, but likely not for long. The Rams will welcome the Blue Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cheshire had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Hand on Wednesday. The Rams' pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers a 13-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rams considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Meanwhile, Southington came tearing into Wednesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Panthers 21-1. The Blue Knights' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Shelby Jordan was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Southington got a massive performance out of Reagan Salvatore, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those five hits gave Salvatore a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reece Archer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.
Southington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in five consecutive games.
Southington pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cheshire, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2.
Cheshire beat Southington 4-0 in their previous matchup back in June of 2024. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
