West Forsyth has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Butler Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Forsyth knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Butler likes a good challenge.
With a playoff game on the line, West Forsyth rose to the challenge on Friday. They strolled past Ardrey Kell with points to spare, taking the game 32-15. Given West Forsyth's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Ardrey Kell is ranked 67th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Caleb David was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 44 yards and four touchdowns. West Forsyth also got a significant boost from Caman Chaplin, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 100 yards.
Meanwhile, Butler had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 49-7 victory over Alexander Central. Considering Butler has won six matches by more than 36 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Butler got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zachary Lawrence out in front who threw for 163 yards and three touchdowns. Jayden Williams was another key contributor, rushing for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Alexander Central to a paltry 142 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Butler's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Alexander Central's QB won't forget Mark Williams anytime soon given Williams sacked him twice.
West Forsyth has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Butler, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: West Forsyth has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 265.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Butler struggles in that department as they've been averaging 168.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
