Quincy took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over Barry Western. The Blue Devils' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Izzy Weppler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits.
On the hitting side, Avary Hlubek was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Ava Geisendorfer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Quincy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Camp Point Central's offense. They lost 18-0 to Pittsfield on Friday. The loss put an end to the Panthers' undefeated start to the season.
Camp Point Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lola Johnson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.
Having lost for the first time this season, Camp Point Central fell to 2-1. As for Quincy, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Quincy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Camp Point Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
