The Newsome Wolves will take on the Alonso Ravens at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Newsome will be strutting in after a victory while Alonso will be coming in after a defeat.
Newsome barely beat Strawberry Crest the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolves' pitcher stepped up to hand the Chargers an 11-0 shutout on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Allyson Conner tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Arriana N Williams and Mariah Harrelson did most of the damage at the plate: Williams scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Harrelson went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits Harrelson has posted since back in March. Emily Grooms was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Newsome was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Strawberry Crest only posted a batting average of .125.
Meanwhile, Alonso fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Wharton on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They lost 11-5 to the Wildcats. The Ravens haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Alonso saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leah Hernandez, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Newsome is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Alonso, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Newsome took their victory against Alonso in their previous matchup back in February of 2021 by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Ravens have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
