Southwest is 7-2 against South Dade since February of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will square off against the Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. Southwest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Southwest is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Coral Reef a 6-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Barracudas: they've now won seven in a row.
The result came thanks to Euclides Alvarez's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Orisjoe Valdes was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, South Dade narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Palmetto 3-1.
Jonel Lluveras made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because South Dade is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 10-11 otherwise. Lluveras was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Regueira, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Yoidi Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
South Dade was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmetto only posted a batting average of .167.
Southwest's record now sits at 15-7. As for South Dade, their record is now 14-11.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Southwest has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like South Dade struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Southwest was able to grind out a solid victory over South Dade when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
