Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Rapid City Christian Comets, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 28-10 to Hot Springs. Rapid City Christian's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Despite the defeat, Rapid City Christian had strong showings from Lars Kieffer, who picked up 123 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Simon Kieffer, who threw for 231 yards and a touchdown on only 18 passes. Kieffer's longest reception was for an incredible 75 yards.
Leading Hot Springs to victory were Braden Peterson and Camron Maciejewski. Peterson rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, while Maciejewski rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Hot Springs' defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Aidyn Janis and Caleb Rickenbach who racked up five sacks between them.
Rapid City Christian's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Hot Springs, their victory was their fourth straight at home , which pushed their record up to 10-1.
Rapid City Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hot Springs will head out on the road to face off against Elk Point-Jefferson at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Dakota (Elk Point-Jefferson is ranked tenth, while Hot Springs is ranked eighth).
