Riverview is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while River Rouge is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Riverview Pirates will take on the River Rouge Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Riverview narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Trenton 27-25. 27 seems to be a good number for Riverview as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Meanwhile, River Rouge put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Anderson on the road to the tune of 47-14. Given River Rouge's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Anderson is ranked 203rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead River Rouge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamori Biggs, who rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Biggs was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Mckale Mcdowell was another key contributor, throwing for 236 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Riverview's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for River Rouge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Riverview lost to River Rouge at home by a decisive 38-20 margin when the teams last played back in November of 2020. Can Riverview avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
