Softball Recap: Sports Leadership & Management Gets the Win

Sports Leadership & Management had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Canyon Springs on Monday. The Bulls never let the Pioneers get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The Bulls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by 11 runs or more this season.

Mya Schweisthal made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Naima Ralston and Sonny Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Ralston went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Johnson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and six RBI. Those three hits gave Johnson a new career-high. Nicole Carrasco was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Sports Leadership & Management's victory bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Canyon Springs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sports Leadership & Management will challenge Sunrise Mountain at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Miners have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.88 runs per game on average), something the Bulls will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Canyon Springs, they will square off against Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pioneers are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
